WHAT IS A FULL DENTURE?

A full denture replaces all of the teeth on the top or the bottom of a patient’s mouth. Getting a full denture is like placing a whole new smile in your mouth.

The plate is made to cover the entire gum area, according to whether you are getting uppers or lowers. If the denture is for the top, it will be made to cover the entire roof of the mouth. Bottom dentures are made to leave space for the tongue, so they are shaped like a “U.”

A full denture is best for someone who:

• Is missing all of their upper or lower teeth, or they are all damaged or decayed.
• Has half or more missing or damaged teeth and whose remaining teeth are not in great shape.

WHAT IS A PARTIAL DENTURE?

A partial denture is designed to replace some missing teeth. As a partial denture does not need to replace all teeth, the plate does not cover the entire gum area.

If, for example, let’s say you have two teeth in the back of your mouth and one at the front that needs to be replaced. The partial denture plate will only cover those teeth. It will be molded around any remaining teeth you have.
