Routine Cleaning and Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment

When it comes to your smile, taking a short time each day to clean and take care of your teeth and gums and getting routine dental hygiene cleanings at the dentist can save a lot of unnecessary pain, time, and costs. At the dental practice of Dr. W. Paul Burns, DDS in El Dorado, AR, preventive treatments are at the foundation of everything that we do-we would much rather see you twice per year for your regular cleaning and check-up than when you are in pain or suffering from dental decay! In addition, for patients susceptible to gum disease, we offer non-surgical periodontal treatments to help prevent further disease and restore your gums back to health so you can avoid more invasive therapies.

MAINTAINING GOOD ORAL HYGIENE

Patients often ask us how to maintain good oral hygiene. It starts at home with brushing at least twice per day and flossing daily, in addition to maintaining a healthy diet to help prevent plaque, tartar, and bacteria from building up on your teeth where they can cause decay and disease.

The other part of a healthy oral routine is visiting the dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings. At these visits, we do much more than just polish your teeth:

  • During your cleaning, our dental hygienists use special dental tools to gently perform tartar and plaque removal, followed by professional flossing and polishing for a pearly white, clean smile
  • We perform an in-depth examination of your teeth, gums, and underlying bone structure using x-rays or other imaging technologies as needed to evaluate your current oral health and identify whether there are any oral health issues we need to treat or monitor – with regular visits, we can detect problems at their early stages, when they are easiest and least expensive to treat
  • We can also perform preventive treatments such as dental sealant application or fluoride treatments during your routine hygiene visits to help prevent cavities from forming

DEEP CLEANINGS FOR GUM HEALTH

Dental deep cleanings are a great non-surgical option for treating the early stages of periodontal disease and preventing it from progressing into its more severe stages, which can lead to irreversible damage to your teeth, gums, and supporting tissues and bone. With periodontal deep cleanings, we remove the plaque and bacteria that have accumulated under the gum line, which helps your teeth and gums re-form a healthy seal and halt the infection from spreading.
