When you go to your dentist, they will take digital images of your mouth using a cutting-edge CEREC camera. This camera eliminates the need for sticky, poor-tasting molding material being shoved into your mouth so that a physical impression can be taken. Instead, the CEREC camera sends digital images of your mouth to an on-site computer where your dentist can examine your teeth and gums.

With traditional crowns, a physical mold would need to be sent into an off-site lab so that your dental crown can be made. In the meantime, you would have to go home wearing a temporary crown. Temporary crowns serve their purpose but can sometimes be ill-fitting and uncomfortable. You would have to wait a few weeks for your crown to be sent to your dentist, at which time you would return to have the temporary removed and the permanent crown placed.
